How to work with a non-designer person without miscommunication?

How to work with a non-designer person without miscommunication?

    Establish Clear Expectations Early

Miscommunication can start with poor goal definition. The design process, timelines, and deliverables should be clearly communicated right at the start of each project. Design speak, or design jargon, must be avoided, ensuring that goals are defined, responsibilities are clearly understood, and success can be measured.

    Use Outcomes, Not Design Vocabulary

It may not mean the same to non-designers as it does to designers. Designers speak UI/UX, while non-designers speak outcomes. It is easier to speak about outcomes. Design discussions could revolve around business objectives, rather than color or layout.

    Use Visuals to Communicate Ideas

Visualization enables bridging the gaps. Wireframes, prototypes, user flow, and concept diagrams can be used to present an idea. Watching concepts come to life allows non-designers to present feedback in a more informed manner.

    Encourage Feedback and Open Dialogue

Establish a safe environment for questions and feedback. Encourage non-designers to offer thoughts from their point of view and ask questions for clarification. Listen actively and echo feedback for confirmation of understanding. Open communication in both directions leads to successful collaboration.

Collaboration with non-designers requires empathy, understanding, and teamwork. When a common goal and common language exist among all involved, collaboration builds speed and stronger outcomes.
